Makeup Atelier Paris – why it really IS the best foundation in the world.

It’s no secret that I adore Wayne Goss.

For those of you that don’t know who he is, he is a UK based makeup artist who has his own You-Tube channel with almost 2 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS.  Famous for his product reviews as well as makeup tutorials, he knows his stuff, has the most amazing makeup collection, and is lovely to watch (not to mention easy on the eye! I am convinced that that wink he does at the end of every video is directed at me…). So you can imagine my delight when I saw a You-Tube video where he asserts that Makeup Atelier Paris HD Foundation is probably the best foundation in the world.

I have been using this professional brand of makeup for around 7 years now and feel confident in saying that there is no other foundation like Makeup Atelier Foundation.  I have foundations like Make Up For Ever, MAC, Cinema Secrets, Face Atelier, and Graftobian in my kit – they all have their place and I do love them… but the Makeup Atelier Paris waterproof liquid foundation is my go-to foundation, providing medium to full coverage for almost all skin types.  The thing I love about it is that it is not noticeable on the skin so it looks really natural, even though the coverage is phenomenal.  And as Wayne Goss says in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKuBhk7Tcu4 it is SO waterproof you will have a hard time getting it off!  So you can see the appeal for bridal makeup where it is required to last for over 15 hours on the skin without touch-ups!  I have often received messages from my brides telling me that the makeup did not move all night!

See Wayne Goss in this video on You-Tube – Probably the best liquid foundation in the world  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-DkzcapHsI

Here are a few examples of my work using Makeup Atelier Paris waterproof liquid foundation.  You can see how it not only evens out the skin tone, but provides exceptional coverage without looking caked on.

Bear in mind that many of these photographs were taken with my iPhone, and I am not a professional photographer by any means!

My top 13 products of 2013!

I have quite a large makeup kit, and it’s hard to pin-point my favourite products because I love them all.

Now that 2013 is over, I thought I would list my top 13 products of 2013!!  All of these products are items that I discovered and fell in love with over the past year or two.  Products that I now cannot live without!

1.  EMBRYOLISSE LAIT CREME CONCENTRE

This is a staple in many makeup artist’s kits.  It is a rich moisturising lotion that acts as a moisturiser, primer, and makeup remover.  It is simply amazing.

You can buy Embryolisse from any of these stockists: http://www.embryolisse.com.au/Where-to-Buy.html

11

2.  FACE ATELIER FOUNDATION

This beautiful silicone foundation truly looks like skin and is my go-to foundation for mature and dry/normal skins.  It gives a beautiful dewy finish with great coverage, and looks great on everyone!  You can purchase Face Atelier products at PM Studio – http://www.pmstudio.com.au/

9

3.  GRAFTOBIAN ANTI-SHINE HD FOUNDATION PRIMER

This anti-shine primer can matiffy even the oiliest of faces.  Results are instant and long-lasting. A truly amazing product!

You can purchase this primer online from CCA Cosmetics http://www.ccacosmetics.com.au

8

5. M.A.C STROBE CREAM

There is no other product that gives life to skin like MAC Strobe.  It brightens and clarifies the skin with iridescent particles and anti-oxidants.  It also enhances the effect of light on the skin.  This product is amazing when applied on certain areas of the face before foundation, or when mixed in with foundation.  I am obsessed!

You can buy MAC online at http://www.maccosmetics.com.au or in any MAC store.  Do not buy MAC from other “sellers” as there are a lot of very good looking fakes around!

10

5. M.A.C MATTE BRONZER

This is a beautiful tinted powder that is matte, not shimmery, and gives a natural tan colour to the skin.

You can buy MAC online at http://www.maccosmetics.com.au or in any MAC store.  Do not buy MAC from other “sellers” as there are a lot of very good looking fakes around!

7

6.  M.A.C MINERALISE SKINFINISH – SOFT AND GENTLE

This velvet soft powder looks AMAZING on the skin, and provides a gorgeous highlight to cheeks and other areas of the face and decolletage. I love to brush a little across the cupids bow to enhance and highlight the lips.

You can buy MAC online at http://www.maccosmetics.com.au or in any MAC store.  Do not buy MAC from other “sellers” as there are a lot of very good looking fakes around!

6

7. NARS LUSTER BLUSH

NARS blushes are my favourite powder blush.  This warm colour adds a luster, glow, and warmth to cheeks, with a slight sheen (and no shimmer, which I love).

I buy all my NARS from Kiss and Makeup NY – http://www.kissandmakeupny.com/

5

8. EYE OF HORUS SMOKEY EYE PENCIL

It’s no secret I am in love with the Eye of Horus eye pencils.  My favourite and most used is the black smokey eye pencil.  The waxy texture glides on with such a strong pigment.  These pencils are great as a base on the entire lid for smokey eyes.

For your nearest stockist of Eye of Horus products visit here: https://eyeofhorus.com.au/where-to-buy

2

9. MAKE UP FOR EVER AQUA CREME

I bought a couple of these little beauties at IMATS and adored them instantly.  They are a great base for the eyes and perfect for bridal.  I use the champagne colour most.  The bronze is also lovely!

You can purchase Make Up For Ever products at http://www.pmstudio.com.au/

3

10. INGLOT GEL LINER

So many makeup artists rave about this gel liner so I just had to see it for myself.  I was impressed from the beginning with the strong pigment, creamy texture, and longevity of this product.  I have oily lids and eye liner rarely stays put for me, but I can wear this gel liner for 12 hours and it still looks perfect. AMAZING!

There can be purchased from Inglot stores or online at http://inglotaustralia.com/

4

11. URBAN DECAY NAKED PALETTE

Without a doubt this eyeshadow palette is one of my most used – the colours are gorgeous, and the pigment is great.  It’s the perfect “Naked” palette!

I purchased mine from Beauty Bay – http://www.beautybay.com/

13

12. STILA CONVERTIBLE COLOUR

These are a recent acquisition – creme blush AND lipstick in one.  These glide onto the cheek and give a beautiful soft and dewy colour that powder blushes just cannot give.  Simply delicious!

You can purchase this product from Mecca Cosmetica – http://www.meccacosmetica.com.au/

12

13. LIME CRIME VELVETINES

These lip glosses are my obsession.  They glide on as a gloss, but dry a matte velvet.  The colours are smoking hot – Red Velvet, Suedeberry (an orange/red) and the new Pink Velvet.  Nothing makes a woman feel more sexy than a bold lipstick!

You can purchase these babies from Modelrock Lashes at http://modelrocklashes.com/

It’s all about that WOW BROW!

I’ve been a makeup artist for almost 10 years now, and the one thing that most of my client’s are shocked to see me do is define their brows!!  In fact, I would go so far as saying that many of them are frightened of any brow work, and a few even refuse any brow shaping or definition.  I can kind of understand why, because it’s hard to move outside your comfort zone – but brows are the frame to your eyes, and are SO important!  Good brows frame your face and accentuate your eyes!

Brow definition can make a HUGE difference to the whole makeup look when done properly.

Look at the difference a bit of brow definition made to this my client, Sam’s, makeup:

SAM before and after

At the moment, the fashion is all about the WOW BROW – eye brows are big again.  From brushed up and boyish, to shapely and full, the statement brow has been seen amongst many celebrities of late, like Natalie Portman and Princess Kate!

Natalie portman

I absolutely love the full brow look – it is so chic!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m far from loving the famous Brooke Shield brow… but a fuller brow is definitely a lot more flattering to me than last decade’s thin, manicured brows!

Just look at this photo taken from http://www.beautystylewatch.com/are-thin-eyebrows-really-in/ of Keira Knightly with both fuller and thinner brows – I know which style I think is more attractive!

Kiera Knightly

If you are thinking you could never achieve this look because you over-plucked when you were younger (I am a victim of early twenties over-plucking myself!), you are wrong! There are many products that can help you achieve a fuller brow – brow gels, pencils and shadows can all help.  Shadows are great for beginners, and can look more ‘natural’ than pencils and gels. I like to use more than one colour to give a more natural look. The secret when using a brow pencil is to draw in tiny strokes, in a flick like motion to give a more natural hair-like appearance.

I prefer to leave shaping in terms of plucking/waxing/threading to the experts. But it’s really easy for you to enhance that shape using brow products at home.  Brands like Too Faced and Vanity Mark make great brow kits, but there’s nothing stopping you from using a matte eyeshadow on a firm angle brush.  My favourite angle brush for brow shadows is the Real Techniques angle brush you will find in their eye brush kit (available at Priceline).

Another technique to resurrect your full brow is brow tattooing… not something I would do personally, but I’ve seen some amazing photographs of really natural looking brow work using tattoos.

You can also buy brow stencils which are placed over the brow for you to “colour in”.  I do, however, prefer the look when the shape isn’t as harsh near the nose.

When enhancing your brows, just remember that the brow should start in line with the tear duct, and should follow your natural brow shape.

Here’s a diagram that gives you an idea of where the different points of the brow should be.

Portrait of Fresh and Beautiful brunette woman

Of course, the fuller brow that is on trend at the moment tends to have less of an arch.

I hope these brow tips have helped. I will leave you now with a photo from primped.ninemsn.com.au – Cara Delevingne and her beautiful signature brows (and face!)

Happy Brow-ing!

EYE OF HORUS

When I got my delivery of Eye of Horus eye products, I felt like a child at Christmas.  These products, particularly the smokey eye pencil have been the talk of the makeup artist industry.  I knew I was going to love these products the minute I tried them!!

Eye of Horus Goddess makeup range is based on ancient egyptian ingredients and formulas.  The girls behind the brand suffered from sensitivity to the eyes and fine, brittle lashes so researched how the ancient Egyptians used natural waxes and oils in their iconic eye products.  They used the ancient formula as a basis for their eye makeup range to provide products that are long lasting, non irritating, nourishing and great for sensitive eyes, avoiding the use of nasty chemicals. And anyone that knows me knows that I am all for natural skin care and makeup products, so this was RIGHT up my alley!  All products are paraben-free and are not tested on animals.

eye of horus

Let's start with the stand out performer – the GODDESS SMOKEY EYE PENCIL

Three words to describe this pencil: SMOOTH; PIGMENTED; SMUDGEPROOF!

What I love about this eye pencil is that it glides on so smoothly, is highly pigmented and it just doesn't budge!!! It is also great inside the waterline.  I absolutely adore this product and I doubt I will ever find an eye pencil as good as this.  A customer for life!!!

The teal pencil is SUCH a beautiful colour and is very on-trend this season.

It is also a good idea to purchase the eye of horus pencil sharpener when you buy this product, as the pencil is quite soft and a high-quality sharpener is a must!

pencils

I did a little experiment with these pencils.  Here they are on the left (intense, yes?)

I have some other brands that I like and use on the right.

Eye pencils before

And here they are after i've rubbed down the middle with a wet cotton bud.  The staying power of Eye of Horus is phenomenal!

Eye pencils after

GODDESS MASCARA

This mascara is so nourishing that I can actually FEEL my lashes getting healthier and fuller by the day. The mascara is not only volumising, but nourishing and strengthening to the natural lash.

It contains plant-based incredients including Carnauba wax, Moringa oil, Rice bran wax, and Candellila wax.

Another great thing about this mascara is you will never get panda eyes!!!! It is wax based, and when you wash it off of an evening, it comes off so easily, and is not runny.  I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this mascara – it is amazing and I will definitely be using it daily for a long time!

LIQUID DEFINE EYELINER

The first thing I noticed when I opened this product was the texta-like appearance of the eyeliner.  A winged liner usually takes a little while for me to do with a generic brush.  With this texta-like eyeliner pen I can do a winged liner in a few quick strokes.  This liquid eyeliner is beautiful.  Before using this product, it's a good idea to watch this you-tube clip to learn how to activate the product before use, and how to take care of the pen.  If you don't activate the tip, it can appear to be a little dry after a while.  Just push the tip into the side of the lid of the pen and it is activated.

So my verdict on these products is that they are amazing.  I totally understand all the hype.

Do yourselves a favour and go and buy yourself some Eye of Horus products – you can see a list of retailers on their website at

Top product for July 2013!

It's time to tell you what my top product for July is.  It's always so hard to decide on just one – but this month I am going to have to choose:

Lime Crime Velvetines

I waited MONTHS for these little babies to come back into stock after being sold out WORLDWIDE!!!! All I can say is they were worth the wait… they glide on your lips like gloss, and dry like a velvet matte lip stain.  I can eat and drink for 8 hours straight and they do NOT budge.  The colours are exquisite – Red Velvet is a deep red colour, and the Suedeberry is a gorgeous, on-trend orange/red.  I wear these so often, and they are very popular in my kit!  Brides love them as it means they can rock a red lip without worrying about transfering their lip colour to their new husbands lips!!!  You can purchase these from Makeup and Glow (my favourite online makeup store!) www.makeupandglow.com.au for just $21.95 each!

On the left is the RED VELVET and the right, SUEDEBERRY.

My advice: Get one of each!!! You will not regret it.

Nazia’s April Wedding

Back in April I had the pleasure of doing the beautiful Nazia's makeup for her wedding.

Her beautiful Fijian-Indian skin required emphasis, partnered with a deep pink lip – Nazia knew exactly what she wanted bringing me some photos to her makeup trial a few weeks prior.

Congratulations to Nazia and Praniel on their nuptials, and to their amazing all-male bridal party, who were so helpful and caring on the day.

Urban Decay Naked Palette – vs – Chi Chi Nude Palette

The Urban Decay Naked Palette is a staple eyeshadow among many makeup artists for many reasons.  Consisting of 12 neutral colours, they suit any skin tone and can create so many different looks, from a bronze eye to a smokey grey – this palette is a must have for everyone!

The palette comes in a luxurious chocolate and gold velvet box with a beautiful eyeshadow brush.  You also get a travel-size primer potion which aids in maintaining a crease-free look all day.

Naked Palette2

You can purchase the Urban Decay Naked Palette from Beauty Bay for $58.80 including delivery.  The 12 colours are listed on their website at http://www.beautybay.com/cosmetics/urbandecay/nakedpalette/

The colours are:

– Virgin eye shadow (Nude satin)

– Sin eye shadow (Champagne shimmer)

– Naked eye shadow (Buff Matte)

– Sidecar (Beige with glitter)

– Buck (Brown matte)

– Half baked (bronze shimmer)

– Smog (golden brown shimmer)

– Darkhorse (dark bronze shimmer)

– Toasted (Taupe shimmer)

– Hustle (Mocha shimmer)

– Creep (black with sparkle)

– Gunmetal (dark grey with sparkle)

Word on the street is that Chi Chi is selling a dupe of this palette for around one third of the price.  Curiosity got the better of me so I decided to purchase the palette from Myer for a bargain price of $19.95!!!  At first glance you can see why people are saying this is a dupe of the Naked palette – the colours look almost identical.  The main difference at first glance is the packaging – the Chi Chi palette is in a cheaper looking plastic palette with two double-sided sponge applicators rather than a brush.

naked palette

When I first used the Chi Chi palette I must admit I was surprisingly impressed – the eyeshadows went on really nicely and the pigment was pretty good!  It was definitely a little messier than the Naked Palette and I had a fair bit of fallout, but nothing that can't be whisked away with a brush.  The colours blended well together.  A tick of approval from me!!!

I took some colour swatches of the colours from each of the palettes to compare – you can see that there are a lot of similarities, but a few of the colours are a tad different, for example the "darkhorse" colour is a lot darker and pigmented in the Naked Palette, and "half baked" is more bronzy in the Naked Palette.

In natural light (on a gloomy day) TOP ROW IS THE NAKED PALETTE, BOTTOM ROW IS THE CHI CHI PALETTE:

naked chi chi 2

And under LED light:

naked chi chi

Overall, the Chi Chi is a great palette to have in ones personal makeup collection – I really like this palette and will continue to use it for personal use.  However, the Naked Palette is a bestseller for a reason – the quality is definitely more superior when comparing to the Chi Chi palette.  The shadows are a lot more pigmented and a little bit goes a long way.  So it's staying in my professional kit (no offence to Chi Chi!!!)

Joel Madden’s Sydney Housewarming Party – special guests Simmone and Sam

You may remember back in January I published a blog post about two lovely girls from Townsville, QLD who travelled to Sydney to attend the Australia Day Cricket Test with Joel and Benji Madden!  I was lucky enough to do the girls' makeup for their dinner-date with the Madden Brothers!

You can read that post here: Simmone, Australia Day and the Madden Brothers

You can imagine my surprise when I received an email from Simmone a few months ago telling me that she had won yet ANOTHER competition, this time one sponsored by Vodafone, to attend Joel Madden's Sydney Housewarming Party!!!  I felt honoured to be asked to do the makeup for her again, as well as for her sister, Sam.

I attended the girls hotel room overlooking Sydney Harbour to do their makeup – the theme at this event was "Rock" so we went with a bold winged shadow smokey eye for Simmone, and an orange rock lip for Sam, with long lashes.

The girls each wear Atelier Paris Waterfproof foundation, Atelier Paris concealer, Cinema Secrets cream foundation, Atelier Paris eyeshadows in various colours, MAC Magnetic Fields eyeshadow (Simmone only), Makeup and Glow gel liner, Elementwo Airbrush Blush, Sleek blush in Rose gold, and Red Cherry lashes (Simmone wears #217 and Sam wears #12).  Simmone wears lipstick Makeup and Glow Ash Rose and Tea Rose (mixed) and Sam's orange lips are Lime Crime Velvetine in "Suedeberry".

Here are the girls before and after photos (thanks for allowing me to post them, ladies!).

Last (but definitely not least) here they are with the main man himself, Mr Joel Madden (Vodafone official photograph):

I have spoken to Simmone since the event who said it was an "excellent night!"

She said that "the boys (i.e Joel and Benji) are intoxicating, she wanted them around forever, and is just so grateful".

"The party was amazing", she says.

I am so pleased that she got to hang out with the boys again, both ladies are beautiful people (inside and out) and deserve the happiness this experience has brought them.

I look forward to doing their makeup again for the next Madden Event!!!

Product review – Luscious Cosmetics

I was recently approached by Suzanne at Luscious Cosmetics about trialing and reviewing some of her new cosmetics range.

LUSCIOUS COSMETICS TM is an Australian owned Makeup Company designed by a professional makeup artist in a superior lab. Suzanne is a professional makeup artist in Sydney, as well as a mother of five children.

I was sent three beautiful products to trial:

The first being the Camera Ready Face Primer (RRP $50).

Luscious primer

Like other silicone primers, this primer will lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, providing grip and longevity to your foundation.  I loved the feel of this primer – and reminded me of other professional silicone primers I have used. A little goes a long way!  I recommend this primer to anyone looking for an Australian alternative to other overseas brands. I love to support Australian brands!!

The next product sample I was given was the Luscious Mousse Foundation (which retails for $48):

lusciousmousse

This is a BEAUTIFUL foundation – glides on like mousse, and sets like velvet on the skin with a beautiful finish.  I loved the feeling of this foundation.  It provides medium coverage too, which is great. Again, a little goes a long way with this product.

The final product was the Flawless Finish Foundation (RRP $45).

liquid face makeup f wht

This is a lovely water-based liquid foundation which provides a light to medium coverage and is PERFECT for everyday wear.  I am currently wearing it as I type this post, and I've had it on for about 7 hours (2 hours of which was out in the sun).  It still looks great and it doesn't feel heavy on the skin at all.  A definite thumbs up from me!

Overall, the Luscious Cosmetics Brand has definitely proven to be something I would buy.  I love to support Australian industry and Suzanne is an absolute pleasure to deal with.

You can order online at http://www.beautylusciousandco.com.au/index.php/lusciouscosmetics

Or you can contact Suzanne at http://www.beautylusciousandco.com.au/index.php/contactus

You can also get your luscious products online via LUXOLA which is South-East Asia's largest beauty e-tailer!!!  You can buy it here http://www.luxola.com/au/brands/luscious
